UT System Legislative Fellowship

The Texas Legislative Fellowship Program offers UT System students with an interest in the legislative process and Texas politics an immersive learning experience in Austin during the Spring 2025 semester. Fellows engage in coursework and gain first-hand experience through a legislative internship at the state capitol. 

UT System Legislative Fellowship Application Checklist 

Please compile the following documents into a single file for submission.  

  • Application Form: see pages 2-5 of this document  
  • Resume (one page) 
  • List of References: provide the name and email address of two references (one academic and one professional) 
  • Cover Letter: In no more than 500 words, write a cover letter which explains why you want to participate in the Texas Legislative Fellowship Program.  How will this experience support your academic and/or career goals? 
  • List of Potential Internships: provide three legislative offices or committees where you would be interested in completing an internship. Include a short paragraph for each internship opportunity explaining why you have chosen it and how you would benefit from interning there as Legislative Fellow. 

Eligibility Requirements 

Applicant must be pursuing a bachelor's or graduate degree at a University of Texas System institution. 

Please initial to confirm that you meet the following eligibility requirements: 

Undergraduate Applicant 

  • Overall GPA of 3.0 or higher 
  • Previous work or internship experience 
  • Campus leadership and/or community involvement 
  • Sophomore, junior, or senior status, by year or credit hour 
  • 12 credit hours completed at UTPB by January 2025 
  • Completion of core government requirements by January 2025 (PLSC 2305 and PLSC 2306). 

Graduate Applicant 

  • Overall GPA of 3.0 or higher 
  • Previous work or internship experience 
  • Campus leadership and/or community involvement 
  • 9 credit hours completed at UTPB by January 2025 

Applications are due by Friday, November 8 at 5:00 p.m. CT. Finalists will be notified within two weeks and will be invited to participate in an on-campus interview. To be considered for the program, all application materials must be submitted by the deadline.
